A great way to develop a stronger core is to do sit-ups. In addition, sit-ups help to improve your body's range of motion. Improve your core and you improve the rest of your body as well.

As opposed to thinking of pulling yourself upward when executing a chin-up, you can try to imagine that you're pulling your elbows downward. Mind tricks like these will make executing chin-ups easier and it will enable you to do a lot of them.
