One way to make that happen is to practice running so that your foot lands directly under your body rather than in front of your body. Use the toes on your back leg to push yourself forward. As you practice and become familiar with the proper form you will find your speed increasing.

Sit-ups will increase your range of motion. Building up your core and range of motion will allow your abs to to work longer and harder.
