If your system requests that you rest, follow it's advice. If you do not there is a chance you will hurt yourself.

You need a strong core. A strong, stable core will help with each and every exercise you do. Sit-ups are very good for you and will help to build a strong core. Crunches and sit-ups can provide you with a broader range of motion. These activities will cause you to work longer and harder when focusing on your abdominal muscles.
